Dubai student selected 2021’s youngest entrepreneur

At the India-UAE Business Conclave 2021, held recently under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Ahmad Bin Hamadan Bin Mohamad Al Nahyan, a seventeen-year-old student from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Dubai was named the Youngest Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year.

Syed Zain, a first-year electrical engineering student, was presented with the prestigious prize at a ceremony held at The Oberoi in Dubai. The prize was given in honor of Zain’s entrepreneurial efforts while in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Zain took the initiative to follow a new route in e-commerce when he was sixteen years old and still in high school, offering a range of affordable items to an online retail platform.

“I was determined not to squander my time during the lockdown and, coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I began exploring business prospects,” Zain stated. I quickly realized that there was a significant opportunity in the market. Although the number of cheap retailers in the retail sector has increased, there was no strong web presence for these outlets when consumers were compelled to purchase online, so I decided to design something to fill that vacuum.”

blunzo.com is the outcome of Zain’s innovative idea, an online platform that offers stuff for as little as one dirham and covers a wide range of product categories such as beauty & wellness, toys, household goods, electronics, food, and accessories. The online store has no minimum purchase requirement and provides free delivery throughout Sharjah, Dubai, and Ajman. Business has exploded in the seven months since the platform went live, and the site now has over 600 product lines to choose from.

Despite the fact that he is still in the early stages of his university studies, Zain is determined to growing the company, beginning with the launch of a mobile app. He’s already expanded the marketplace to include a student-run business store. “I wanted to give students a place to market their own work, like artistic works,” Zain explained. “To do so, I created a dedicated section on the site, which has since become the first platform of its sort in the UAE for students to sell their wares online.”

The Global Business Federation staged the India-UAE Business Conclave 2021, and the event’s award ceremony recognized the efforts of a number of prominent businesses in the region. “I am pleased to be acknowledged as an emerging business talent at an event that recognizes so many prominent and inspirational leaders in the sector,” Zain stated after obtaining the title of Youngest Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year 2021. Being chosen for this award by a distinguished panel of government and business judges inspires me to keep establishing and achieving ambitious entrepreneurial goals.”
