A unique internship program for high school students has been announced by the BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, which offers a program in biotechnology engineering. The initiative will place interns in instructive training opportunities in various biotechnology fields. The on-campus internship program will last for five working days and expose students to valuable hands-on experience while introducing them to the practical application of biotechnology. The internship program is being offered by the university in two batches during spring break (April 4–8, 2022) and summer break (August 22–26, 2022), respectively, with the interns receiving a full waiver of the program price.
On the basis of their academic merit, which includes test scores, research interests in biotechnology, and school recommendations, students in grades 11 and 12 will be chosen for the internship. Students who are interested can apply by emailing [email protected] with the required documentation. Students will gain practical experience in microbiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology procedures over the course of the five-day internship, as well as from demonstrations of bioanalytical instruments and literature-based learning. After the internship, students will get certificates of completion.
“Biotechnology is a broad discipline that provides a variety of professional options and prospects for advancement. Additionally, learning about the topic is a rewarding experience because it is an interdisciplinary field with a big impact on many different industries, including biomedical engineering, environmental technology, agricultural engineering, food science innovation, genomics, cell biology, forensic science, and computational biology. As a result of the subject’s diversity, biotechnology students have the opportunity to contribute to a number of industries, which broadens their employment options. According to Dr. Ramachandran Subramanian, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Biotechnology at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus, “the internship program is aimed to spark interest among students in the biotechnology sector and as a result, the fee for the program is free.
A recent analysis predicts that the global biotechnology market would grow from US$793.87 billion in 2021 to over US$1,683.52 billion by 2030. In accordance with a different estimate, the market for biotechnology instruments would grow by more than four times in the next ten years, reaching about US$ 241.4 billion in 2032.
For a more comprehensive teaching experience, he continued, “We would also like to ask biology and biotechnology teachers to attend the training program and to update themselves with the current developments in biotechnology.
The Dubai branch of BITS Pilani’s Biotechnology department offers a thorough curriculum in line with the most recent advancements in the international sector. The biotechnology graduates, who received a rating of 5 stars from KHDA, have landed jobs at reputable companies and colleges in the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the GCC. The department has modern biotechnology facilities and infrastructure for the biotechnology program with the goal of preparing students with cutting-edge technology.
The department’s academic members are actively engaged in research to broaden their horizons of knowledge and have their work published in prestigious international publications. They hold PhDs from prestigious universities of international repute. On research and development projects, the campus also collaborates with national and international organizations.
